Arthur Thomas Judge passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, in Newton, MA. He was born on January 18, 1938, in Springfield, MA, and grew up in Windsor, CT. He was a 1955 graduate of Loomis Chaffee School (then The Loomis School) and a 1959 graduate of Trinity College. In 1963, he received his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine, where subsequently he was an Associate Clinical Professor of Pathology for many years.
Dr. Judge did his clinical internship at Framingham Union Hospital (now Metro West Medical Center) and his residency in pathology from 1964-1968 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston. From 1968- 1970, he was a major in the US Air Force. He was Director of Pathology and Laboratory Services and Consultant to the Surgeon General of the Air Force at Eglin Regional Air Force Base Hospital in Florida.
Following his discharge, Dr. Judge was Assistant Pathologist at St. Elizabeth's Hospital from 1970-1974. Then, until 1998, he was Pathologist at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. Dr. Judge was a diplomat of the American Board of Pathology, a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and president of the Massachusetts Society of Pathologists.
Dr. Judge retired to study at Andover Newton Theological School (now part of Yale Divinity School). After earning his M. Div degree in 2000, he served as a staff chaplain at Brigham and Women's Hospital until 2013. For many years, he did volunteer prison ministry chaplaincy at a number of state and county prisons. He
was an active member of Arlington Street Church (Unitarian Universalist) in Boston.
A longtime Red Sox and Celtics fan, he attended many games with his family as his children were growing up. His favorite sport was soccer, which he played at Loomis and Trinity. He was a member of the Trinity College team that was National Intercollegiate Champion in 1956.
Dr. Judge is survived by his wife Susan Krieger of Newton, MA; daughter Ingrid Whitaker and son-in-law Ethan of Wiscasset, ME; son Geoffrey and his fiancé Cheryl Engler of Cumberland, RI; and son John and daughter-in-law Julie Reich of Needham, MA; stepdaughter Sam of Newton; grandchildren Anna Stressenger, Marita Fichera, and Zachary, Peyton, Madison, Lily and Ryan Judge; great-grandchildren Olivia and Oliver Judge and Finn Fichera; and many nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren, all of whom he adored. He is predeceased by his former wife and the mother of his children, Janet, and his beloved sister, Jean.
A graveside service will be held at Newton Cemetery on Saturday, April 19, at 1:00 PM. A memorial celebration will be held at Arlington Street Church in Boston at a later date.
The family would like to thank Angela Saulnier for her support, kindness and friendship during the last months of Art's life.

Betty and I was so saddened to hear
Of Art´s passing. He was a great friend and served as best man when I married Betty one of our very many satisfying occasions with that when he joined us for a week at our home in Bermuda and we had a cocktail party in art´s honor Including the son of President Jimmy Carter..art And I played tennis every week for many years, including times when there was a light dusting of snow at the court in Needham.. he will be missed and will always be in our prayers .
