Finton Wallace II, 83, of Newport, RI, passed away on February 11, 2026, at Newport Hospital.

Born in Hartford, CT, he was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Susan (Dwyer) Wallace; his parents, J. Finton Wallace and Ellen (Connolly) Wallace; and his brother-in-law, Eugene Johnson.

He is survived by his son, James Finton Wallace of Middletown, and his grandchildren, Amelia and Finton Wallace. Finton also leaves behind his siblings, Sarah W. Johnson and Kathleen W. Johnson (Robert).

After growing up in Windsor Locks, Finton attended the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Boston College and later earned his MBA from Columbia University in New York City.

Following his graduation from Columbia, he attended Navy OCS in Newport, graduating as a lieutenant junior grade. He served two tours as a lieutenant aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War. Upon completing his service at sea, he returned to Newport as an OCS instructor at the Naval Station.

In his civilian career, Finton served as an officer at the Rhode Island Hospital Trust in Newport before joining the Bank of Newport as Vice President in charge of commercial lending. During his tenure at both institutions, he was an active member of the Christie's of Newport Crew.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Johnny's Restaurant at the Wyndham Newport Hotel, 240 Aquidneck Ave, Middletown. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Finton's memory may be made to Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice, 438 E. Main Road #100, Middletown, RI 02842, or online at visitingnursehh.org.
