Art was a graduate of Brown Vocational High School and dutifully served with the City of Wilmington Fire Department for 26 years before his retirement in 1994. Following his career with the fire department, he was employed with Christiana Care for 11 years. He was a member of Retired Firefighters Local 1590, Wilmington.
Art enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Delaware Bass Club. He also enjoyed playing golf and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. In earlier years, Art served as a coach with Stanton-Newport Little League.
Art will be dearly missed by his wife of 57 years, Nancy (Crosley) McGuire; his children, Eileen Cusack and husband, Leonard, Arthur F. "Mick" McGuire III and wife, Rosellen, Edward McGuire Sr.; his grandchildren, Megan Murphy and husband, Walt, L.T. Cusack and wife, Chelse, Edward McGuire Jr., Stephanie Kelly and husband, Matthew, Jacob, Justin and Julie McGuire; his great grandchildren, Ella, Heisler and Elise Murphy, McKinley Hagerman, Sawyer Cusack, Sophia and Madelyn Kelly; and his beloved dog, Tess.
Art is also survived by his sisters, Elva Hazewski and husband, Thomas, Joanne Rooks and Elizabeth Graybeal; his brother, Robert McGuire and wife, Laura.
The family would like to thank the staff of Delaware Hospice for the loving and compassionate care given to Art while at his home and the inpatient unit at St. Francis Hospital.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, October 8 from 11:00AM – 12:30PM, with funeral services immediately following. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Art may be made to Nemours Children's Hospital, 1600 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 or the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
