Arthur Lee Poindexter, affectionately known as 'Tub Tub, Tugboat and Tubby', peacefully gained his wings on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
Tubby was born at the Wilmington General Hospital on July 15, 1962, to the late Janie Marie Earl (Ronnie) and the late Claude Arthur Poindexter (Anne). Tubby grew up in Cleveland Heights in Newark, Delaware and attended Central Elementary and Shue Middle School. He later graduated from Newark High School. Tubby was a CSR for many years and worked for Amazon. In his spare time, Tubby also loved to drive and help others by giving them rides to the grocery stores, airports, doctors, etc. You could always count on him to do what he said he would do for you.
Tubby was the 'mold' that held the family and friends together. He always stayed in touch with his family and friends from Boston to Florida. He was always concerned about their well-being and wanted the best for them. Tubby always had an encouraging 'honest' word for you. Whether it was keeping the bishop encouraged and assuring he was going to his appointments or making sure his family in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Boston were OK. He always reminded everyone that 'He's Not Just Another Pretty Face'.
Tubby enjoyed singing, listening to music, collecting old albums, cooking, baking cakes, watching movies, keeping family photos of those that have gone on and the new editions to the family, telling jokes, talking to family and friends that had a bad day, but most of all, ”going down memory lane”. Tub Tub was a 'Master Brain' of his family-He was the 'Archive'. Everyone went to him, as he had a knack for remembering everyone's birthdays, graduations, deaths, family reunions, no matter the event, he remembered.
He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Linda Marie Lewis, beloved nephew Mathelious "Booshum" Poindexter and his "Bestie" Sandy Waller.
Arthur leaves to cherish his memories Shirley Tucker-Waller, whom he called his 2nd mother, his Pastor Bishop Allen Fields, his Stepmother Anne Poindexter (Boston, Mass); two brothers Claude Lee Poindexter (Charlene), Troy Poindexter (Carmen), one sister Theresa Poindexter (Boston, Mass), one brother in law Howard Lewis (Newark, DE), ten Neice's (three he considered as daughters - LaTasha Powell, Ciara Poindexter-James (Orlando, FL)., and Janie Lewis (Newark, DE); six Nephews; two Great Neice's; three Great Nephews. He also leaves behind Aunt's, Gracie, Alice, Carolyn, Joyce, Jenny, Nell, Lu Veen, Bobbie Anne and Maxine, two special Uncle's Walter and John Tucker, Cousins and Friends. Especially Carla Tucker, Carmen Tucker, Joann Barber and his cousin Alma Haskins-Jones.
Tubby, we believe you changed God's mind through your humble spirit and behavior as well as others through your talks and showing your Love to everyone. We Love you, but God Loved you best.. Rest in Peace.
