Arthur Robert Schindele, a devoted husband, father, and friend, peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus on January 6, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by his wife and children in
Wenatchee, Washington. Art left behind a legacy of laughter, faith, and tireless service.
Born in
Poplar, Montana, on September 27, 1940, he was the youngest of Andy and Emily Schindele's 5 children. Emily died soon after his birth and his cousins, John and Barbara Mehulky brought him to Spokane and raised him alongside their 5 children. After graduating from North Central High School, Art married his high school sweetheart, Betty, in 1959. As they began to build their life together, he started a lifelong career connected to the food industry. He started as a Produce Assistant at Albertson's in Spokane, eventually rising to Produce Manager. In 1967, a transfer brought him to the Wenatchee Albertson's, a move that would define the rest of his life and begin his community involvement.
Art later transitioned into food service sales with Pacific Fruit and Produce and Food Services of America. Known for his work ethic and integrity, he was a top salesman, earning numerous awards while remaining deeply committed to helping his customers grow their businesses.
Beyond his professional success, Art's heart belonged to his family and his faith. He shared 66 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, Betty. Together, they raised five children and created a home centered on love and shared meals. Art was a fixture at St. Joseph's Catholic Church for nearly 50 years, where his faith was put into action. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he organized monthly breakfasts for years, and in retirement, he was a dedicated volunteer at KC Help, ensuring community members had access to medical equipment at no cost. He also found great joy in volunteering for the Special Olympics Washington Winter Games.
Art was happiest when he was outdoors-fishing, hunting, or tending to his garden-and even happier when he was in the kitchen cooking for those he loved. His great sense of humor was a gift to everyone he met; he truly loved to make people laugh.
Art is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; his children, Steve (Kelly) Schindele, Jan Schindele, Sue Schindele, Julie (Rick) Kalkowski, and Kathleen (Derek) Allen; as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Rosary: Friday, February 6 2026, at 7:00 PM. Funeral Service: Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Both held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 625 S. Elliott Ave,
Wenatchee, WA. A reception will follow.
The family is grateful for your support. Memorial contributions to KC Help are a meaningful way to honor Art's passion for serving. Memorial donations can be sent to KC Help, P.O. Box 3850,
