"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called heavenward in Christ Jesus". Philippians 3: 14

On September 13, 2025, Art went to his heavenly home and is now reunited with his beautiful wife, Laura who preceded him in death this past April. Art and Laura were blessed with 68 years of marriage. Roland and Dorothy Strege, along with Art's brother Roland (Rollie) Strege, also preceded him death.

"I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and find satisfaction in all their toil, this is the gift of God. -Ecclesiastes 3: 12-13

Art was a hard-working provider for his family: Janet Stiglich (Tony), Jean Herrmann (preceded Art in death), Joyce Gohr (Jeff), and Ronald Strege (Kim). Art was a loving grandfather to Jamie Klappa (Paul), Katie Brasure (Greg), Becky Lindenberg (Erik) (Becky preceded Art in death), Joe Herrmann (Tonya), Jacob Stiglich (Karissa), Laura Troutman (Marcus), Shelley Ervin (Brad), Jonathan Szymanski (Jason), Alexander Strege, and Jeremy Herrmann (Melissa). Art was proud of all his great grandchildren! Adam, Ryan, Jenna and Owen Klappa, Joseph and Jackson Lindenberg; Donovan and Savannah Troutman, Gavin and Brooklynn Stiglich, Callahan and Finley Ervin, Preston and Asher Herrmann, Blake and Ivan Brasure, Hannah and Michael Herrmann.

Art graduated from Gibraltar High School where he started to play baseball. Art served in the Air Force but returned to Door County when his father died. Art continued to play ball even though he worked in Milwaukee. He would make frequent trips to Door County to participate in ball games and that is how he and Laura connected as she needed a ride home from school to see her parents who lived in Fish Creek!

Art worked for "The Telephone Company" for 30+ years! He also worked part time at the A&P store at night so that he could provide for his family. Art could spend hours talking about all the stories and connections he made at the telephone company! Art also had a knack for remembering phone numbers and attributed it to the phone company!

"You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God". 2 Corinthians 9:11

Throughout his life, Art shared his time and treasures with the church and his family. He served on building committees, usher teams, church counsels, and so much more. If the church was in need, Art was there! He would rally other members to participate as well. After retirement, they moved back to Door County and returned to his church family, Christ Ev Lutheran Church in Baileys Harbor, where Art attended as a child. Several parishioners have shared that Art's welcoming them to church as visitors was a reason for them joining! He never hesitated to invite fellow members to join them for breakfast at Pelletier's in Fish Creek after Sunday service.

Art is remembered for his passion for sports! He loved bowling and playing golf until physically he could no longer participate. That didn't slow him down! He continued to work on the golf course, cutting grass until he was 88 years old! Art was a fan of the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, along with basketball and football games at any level! Art coordinated many tailgate parties at Milwaukee County Stadium when the Packers played in Milwaukee! Art loved a good joke but more enjoyed sharing a joke with others! He loved playing cards, hunting with his son, Ron, and hosting a party or two or three for his friends. Many memories for his family to cherish.

Art's victory service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Visitation at 10:00 with service to follow at 11:00 at Christ Ev Lutheran Church, 9986 WI-57, Bailey's Harbor, WI 54202. Interment at Blossomberg Cemetery (Peninsula State Park) will commence promptly at 2:00 p.m. Forbes Funeral Home is serving the family.
