This week we celebrate the homecoming of Mr. Sonny Tarpley, 79, who entered eternal life on August 6, 2023, after a brief illness. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, the fun grandfather, a proud great grandfather, a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church, and a veteran of foreign wars. He retired from both the U.S. Army and Montgomery Wards. He loved attending church, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. He spent his final days as a resident of the Northeast Louisiana Veteran’s Home. Sonny never met a stranger and was never afraid to share his opinions. He strived to do his best in all life circumstances and encourage others to achieve their life goals. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Young (Gary); four grandchildren, Garrison Young, Sarah Leo (Kade), Mason Word, and Willie Word (Jana); and many other friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty J. Tarpley.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 9, and funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, August 10, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA, with Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA.
Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Baptist Church.
