BURLEY – Arthur Ray Thornton, age 73, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025, surrounded by his wife and friends.
Art was born January 27, 1952, in Burley, Idaho, to Ralph Robert and Janece Helen (Klink) Thornton. He attended high school in Burley, graduating in 1970. He then completed one year of college at Idaho State University before joining the United States Army National Guard, where he served for six years.
In 1989, Art became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully for the remainder of his life-including fulfilling a longtime dream of serving a senior mission with his wife at Adam-ondi-Ahman. He had a deep love for the construction industry and carried on his father's company with honesty and integrity for more than 50 years. His passion for building bridges and lifelong learning was only surpassed by his love for people, his family, and his faith.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Janece; his father-in-law, Darwin Williams; his brother-in-law, Mark Williams; and his brother-in-law, Orlie Runyon.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Michelle; his daughter, Brook (Toby Norskog); his two cherished grandchildren, Ivy and Rhen; and his son, Derrick. He is also survived by his brother, Jim (RaNada); and his sister, Nan.
Art never met a stranger and was known for his unwavering generosity. He loved everyone and could always be found in the service of others and Jesus Christ. He had a unique way of making others feel special and never let a moment pass without showing it. Art worked hard and played hard. From a young age, he had a passion for cars, motorbikes, snowmobiles, and music-a passion that lives on in his grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – View 1st Ward, located at 550 S. 500 E., of Burley, with Bishop Brent Stoker officiating. Burial will follow at View Cemetery where military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group.
Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, September 26, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Jack and Mary Zarybnisky Foundation at the following address: 504 Riverside Dr., Burley, ID 83318, or a charity of your choice.
