Arthur Franklin Uphold, Jr., age 76, of Sourwood Drive passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Born on March 9, 1949 in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Arthur Uphold, Sr. and the late Ruth Dale Uphold. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a niece, Jennifer Wyatt and a nephew, Brandon Warren.
Arthur was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine and he sang in the church choir. He was a graduate of Harris High School and was a member of the football and basketball teams. He was also a graduate of North Carolina State University and was a proud supporter of Wolf Pack athletics.
He was currently employed by the McDowell County Tax Office. In his spare time, he loved playing the guitar and played in the bluegrass group, 'Mountain Fever'. He was into music and appreciated various musical genres and was particularly fond of listening to, The Eagles. He also loved his nieces and nephews. And, he enjoyed telling jokes and funny stories.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife; Jo Ann Uphold of the home, his sisters-in-law; Deborah Warren of Simpsonville, SC and Susan McKinney Hollifield of Little Switzerland, his brother-in-law; Greg McKinney of Spruce Pine; and his mother-in-law; Virginia Vilchka of Weaverville, and his nieces and nephews.
The funeral service honoring the life of Arthur Uphold, Jr. will be Sunday, May 18, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. David Vess officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 18, 2025 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in the Burnette Cemetery.
