Arthur Van West Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 3, 2025.
Arthur "Bob" Van West, Jr., 89, of Clearbrook, VA, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 25, 2025, surrounded by his children.

Born in Marion, VA, on May 23, 1936, he was the son of the late Arthur and Verna West. Bob was a truck driver with Estes Express Lines for 35 years, retiring in 2001.

He carried a mix of humor, independence, and plainspoken friendliness. Shaped by his upbringing on the farm, he found joy in tending the land of friends and family, helping neighbors when illness kept them from their fields, and fixing whatever needed repair. He also enjoyed catching up with friends at the Clearbrook Shopping Center. His greatest passion, however, was tractors - both the real and toy kind - which he collected with unmatched devotion.

He had a soft spot for everyday pleasures: feeding the backyard birds, working in his garage, and browsing the aisles of Costco (often coming home with more than one man living alone could possibly eat).

Bob is survived by his children: Carol Everhart of Bunker Hill, WV; Barbara Webster (Paul) of Stuarts Draft, VA; Carl West (Sharon) of Bunker Hill, WV; Donna Fiddler (Scott) of Bunker Hill, WV; Tammy Batcha (Tom) of Middletown, VA; and Holly Schreiner (Chris) of Queen Creek, AZ. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and his sister, Gilda Youngblood of Capon Bridge, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Linda West, Donald West, and George West; his grandson, David Shifflett, Jr.; and his great-grandson, Malcolm Baker.

Family and friends are invited to gather in his memory on Sunday, October 12, from 2–4 p.m. at the Frederick County Fairgrounds, Ruritan Building.
