Arthur Vaughn age 86 of the Slavens Community, gained his angel wings on Sunday, November 2, 2025, as God decided his work as an angel on earth was finally done. He was born on March 20, 1939, the beloved son of the late Dennis and Alpha Jones Vaughn.
On May 16, 1959, he married the love of his life, Joan Hill Vaughn. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with two children, Arthur Dwight Vaughn and Shanda Carol Vaughn Jones.
Arthur accepted Christ into his heart at a young age and was a devoted deacon for several years. He and his wife shared their love of music by singing and playing for multiple churches, often performing alongside his uncle and aunt.
Arthur worked as a coal miner for many years, learning to operate heavy equipment. He later worked for DH Campbell, where he leveled much of the land in Whitley City and Pine Knot, leaving a lasting mark on the community he loved. He also was a member of the West McCreary fire department.
In his spare time, Arthur enjoyed working on vehicles or heavy equipment in his basement, playing music with his friends, and spending time with his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. He also had a lifelong love for his 1957 Chevy Bel Air, a classic car he cherished and kept in pristine condition — a true reflection of his passion and pride. Everyone who knew Arthur remembers his contagious smile and selfless heart.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Joan Hill Vaughn of Stearns, KY; his beloved daughter, Shanda Carol Vaughn Jones (Jerry Jones) of Stearns, KY; and daughter-in-law, Sketter Vaughn of Stearns, KY. He was a proud grandfather to Natasha Vaughn Owens (Landon Owens) of Whitley City, KY, Trajan Vaughn (Cheyanne Vaughn) of Wayne County, KY, and Lakeisha Shae Jones of Stearns, KY. He is also survived by his cherished great-grandchildren, Cadence, Mason, Reagan, and Bennett Owens of Whitley City, KY, and Zander Vaughn of Wayne County, KY.
He leaves behind his loving sibling, Orville Vaughn of Stearns, KY, and sister-in-law, Sandy Vaughn of Wayne County, KY, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish his memory.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Alpha Jones Vaughn; his son, Arthur Dwight Vaughn; siblings, Glen Vaughn and Mildred Vaughn Shepherd; and special friends, Robin Johnson, Roger Jones, Howard Phillips, Jerry Lair, Othel Vaughn, Ted Jones, and Everett Jones.
Arthur’s life was one of love, faith, laughter, and service — a man whose smile and heart left a mark on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Bell and Bro. James Lynn Hill officiating.
