Arthur Zwiefelhofer
January 13, 1942 - July 7, 2025
Arthur Clarence Zwiefelhofer, 83, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away Monday, July 7th, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Art was born January 13th, 1942, in Bloomer, Wisconsin, to Clarence and Viola (Anderson) Zwiefelhofer. He attended St. Peter's in Tilden through eighth grade and graduated from Bloomer High School in 1960. Art worked various jobs during his career and retired in 2012 after working as Chief Maintenance Officer for Northwestern Bank for 33 years. He was a member of St. Olaf Catholic Church in Eau Claire.
In 1984, he married the love of his life, Anita Hiess. They recently celebrated 40 wonderful years together on December 31, 2024. Art was an avid outdoorsman. He found great joy in hunting and fishing. One of his most cherished adventures was an elk hunt in New Mexico shared with all of his brothers - a meaningful trip that rewarded him with great memories and the trophy of a lifetime.
If he wasn't out hunting, you could find Art up at the trailer on Marshmiller Lake, fishing, telling tall tales, or a little of both.
Art had a lifelong love for baseball. He played for the Howard Braves from 1961 to 1964, then with the Tilden Tigers from 1965 to 1983. After his playing days, he stayed close to the game as a Chippewa River Baseball League umpire from 1984 to 2018. In 2019, he was inducted into the CRBL Hall of Fame, a reflection of the lasting impact he made on the league.
More than anything, Art loved his family. He will be lovingly remembered for his devotion to his family and for instilling life's most valuable lessons in those he loved. When asked what advice he had about living a good life, Art said, "Keep active, do things you love, love your family, have faith."
Art is survived by his wife, Anita; his children Jeff (Michelle) Zwiefelhofer, Linda (Jim) Odness, Deb (Dave Nashold) Zwiefelhofer, Amanda (Matt) Erickson, and Amy (Derrick) Zappa; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Philip Zwiefelhofer, Jim (Darlene) Zwiefelhofer, Del (Barb) Zwiefelhofer, Tom (Janet) Zwiefelhofer; and one sister, Diane (Dave) Baier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Viola Zwiefelhofer; and one sister-in-law, Jenny Zwiefelhofer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17th at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Eau Claire with Father James Kurzynski celebrating the Mass. Burial will immediately follow at Prairie View Cemetery in the village of Lake Hallie.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16th and again from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 17th at Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls. A Christian Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
