CARLIS, Mrs. Artiller, age 98, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025 at home. Family hour 10:30AM Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Welcome Missionary Baptist Church, 143 Oneida Street, with funeral commencing immediately at 11:00AM. Pastor Douglas P. Jones, officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, 216 University Drive. Friends and pallbearers will assemble 10:30AM at the church Wednesday. Mrs. Carlis will lie instate in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 North Perry Street and may be viewed between the hours of 12:00PM - 6:00PM Tuesday. Mrs. Carlis leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Carolyn Wilkinson, Linnetta Carlis and Cynthia Carlis; grandchildren, Crystal Wilkinson, Jarius Aaron and Jasper Aaron; greatgrandchildren, Zarriyah Williams and Zoey Hines; four stepchildren, Bertha Carlis, Elaine Carlis, Esq., Carol Carlis and David Carlis; a host of nieces and nephews; special cousin, Delphine White; and a host of other relatives and friends including special friends and neighbors, Nancy Haynes, Ruth Mitchell and Mary Carr. Mrs. Carlis was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Carlis; son, Timothy Carlis; daughter, Dr. Dorothea Carlis; mother, Myernie Jones Galloway; father, Dewey Jones; siblings, Laruth Shoemaker, Brooks Galloway, Howard Galloway, Ommie Ree Berry, Jewel Holloway and Julie Galloway; aunt, Willie Mae Simms; uncle, James P. Sims; nephews, Kenneth Galloway; niece, Rachel Galloway; and step-daughter and son, Joyce Carlis and John Carlis, II.
