Arvol Cassady, Jr., age 94 of Revelo, Kentucky passed from this life on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, Tennessee.
He was born on November 29, 1930 in Lovely, Kentucky to the late, Gladys Cassady. In addition to his mother, Arvol is preceded in death by his wife and companion of nearly 45 years, Anna (Crabtree) Cassady; a son, Brad Cassady; a grandson, Deon Woolridge; and brothers, Carl and Bob Cassady.
Surviving family include his children, Patty Kidd and husband, Tony of Strunk, Kentucky, Ed Hamner and wife, Heather, also of Strunk, Betty Strunk and husband, Tim of Burnside, Kentucky, Rita Messer and husband, Tim of Mackville, Kentucky, Cathy Buttram and husband, Dane of Oneida, Tennessee, Carla Cassady Meddock (and Michael), Ruby Cassady Bradshaw, and Rita Beaty; grandchildren, LeAnna Gilreath, Coy Strunk, Mackenzie Bartley, Cole Kidd, Nathaniel Messer, Bryson Buttram, Grant Hamner, Evan Kidd, Aaron Buttram, Andrew Buttram, Adam Chambers, Amanda Henderson, Larry Roberts, Michelle Penn, and Matthew Woolridge; and great-grandchildren, Aubree Gilreath, Waylon Strunk, Amelia Kidd, Liam Bartley, Calliope Strunk, Colton, Boden, Logan, Kanen, and Drew Buttram.
Arvol was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He began his working life as a coal miner and later a businessman. He and his wife owned and operated a familiar general store on Main Street in Whitley City known as Cassady's for more than 30 years. Arvol was proud to be a member of the McCreary County Chamber of Commerce and serve his community, but in his spare time he enjoyed going fishing. Arvol will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Kingtown Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday after 1:00 pm until service time.
