Mr. Ashley Cooper, 85, of Whitakers, North Carolina transitioned on October 30, 2023.
Mr. Ashley Cooper, son of the late Ceasar Cooper and Molly Kearney Cooper. Was born on August 16, 1938, in Whitakers, North Carolina. He departed this life on October 30, 2023, after a short illness at UNC Nash Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC.
Ashley grew up working on a farm along with his family. He eventually, transitioned to driving big trucks for various companies and eventually retiring from the truck driving profession after many years of service. Not one to sit around, he went back to work seasonally for the tobacco factory until health began to slow him down. Even though he was no longer working a job he decided to work his farm. Ashley would plant enough greens and collards to feed all Swift Creek and most of the area surrounding White Oak and a good portion of Charlotte. Everyone loved his greens.
On July 20, 1956, Ashley Cooper married Lucy Jane Smith. Thru this union they raised their family of four children. Ashley is preceded in death by their son Anthony.
Mr. Ashley Cooper leaves to cherish wonderful memories: his wife Lucy Jane Cooper of the home; sons Willie Cooper of Kenly, NC; Glen Cooper of Whitakers, NC; daughter Edith Bolden (Philandis) of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law Analisa Cooper of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren Branden Cooper; LaDester Mitchell (Tavaris); Lauren Johnson (Brandon); Chandra Cooper; Meredith Bolden; Anissa Cooper; Arynn Cooper; Kendra Cooper and Kendrick Cooper; Six great-grandchildren. One beloved sister whom he talked to everyday Ann Hamberg of Rocky Mount, NC. Two sisters-in-law Bessie Cooper of District Heights, Md.; Annie Smith of Ahoskie, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A Visitation for Mr. Cooper will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at White Oak Baptist Church located at 1612 White Oak Rd in Enfield, North Carolina. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 1:00 pm. The interment will take place in White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery in Enfield, North Carolina.
