Ashley Raeford Thomas, born December 15, 1956, in Albemarle, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Ashley was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose quiet strength, kind heart, and deep appreciation for the outdoors shaped a life filled with meaning and love.
From an early age, Ashley developed a strong bond with nature. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially cherished the time he spent quail hunting with his grandfather. The love of bird hunting was passed on to his boys and his grandson Rylan. These early experiences sparked a lifelong passion and a particular love for Browning shotguns-his favorite being the Sweet Sixteen. Ashley also thoroughly enjoyed listening to his granddaughter Lawson play her banjo.
Ashley is survived by his two sons, Ryan Thomas and wife Stacey of Monroe, and Matt Thomas of Stedman; and his two grandchildren, Rylan and Lawson, who were the pride and joy of his life. He is also survived by his brother, Ken Turrentine, and Ken's sons, Kendall and Charlie. In addition, he is lovingly remembered by his aunt and many cousins who were dear to his heart.
Ashley was preceded in death by his father, Raeford Thomas; his mother, Betty Turrentine; and his stepfather, Dee Turrentine.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ashley's life on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Hopewell Baptist Church Legacy Campus, 420 Hopewell Church Road, Monroe, NC 28110. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 PM, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM.
Ashley's legacy will live on in the fields he walked, the family he loved, and the values he passed down. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
