Ashley Danielle Willett Major, a life-long resident of Southern Maryland, born on March 27, 1984, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 28, 2024, after a long, brave battle from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on July 21, 2024.
Throughout the four months she was hospitalized, she remained determined to get home to her girls. She continued to defy all odds on a daily basis. Her doctors continuously referred to her as a miracle. A chaplain that would often visit Ashley nicknamed her Xena Warrior Princess.
Dozens of her doctors and nurses from all units, and even cleaning staff came to pay their respects to the family and say their goodbyes to "Ash," as they had all begun calling her, just as most others had done all of her life. Many of them saying that every once in a while, they get a patient that really stays with you forever, and Ashley was definitely one of them.
Ashley worked aside her sister Susan for The Salvation Army, National Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, for 17 years, where she was loved dearly by all of her co-workers. Her supervisors considered her to be an "institution" to the organization.
Ashley's greatest joy in life was being a mom and creating memories with her two beautiful daughters. She enjoyed being with family and friends for any type of casual get together, never missing an event that celebrated a special occasion for those she cared about, working with her girls on their softball skills in the front yard, cheering them on at their games, and spending time with them at the beach. Another of her truly favorite things to do was spending quality time with her MawMaw who was not only her grandmother, but also her best friend and confidant. No matter where Ashley was, she always had the best time and ensured others did as well. She had a special gift that allowed her to light up any room with her unmistakable laugh, beautiful smile, sense of humor, and love of life. Ashley had a flair for interior decorating, transforming her home into a seasonal showcase, and always wanting to share it by hosting family gatherings. She loved when it came time to start working on her flowerbeds and always had a house full of plants that she took great pride in. Ashley's passing will undoubtedly leave a hole in the hearts of her family, friends, and anyone that was lucky enough to cross paths with her.
Ashley is survived by Danny Major; her two precious daughters Sophia (13) and Vivian (8) Major; her mother Jacqueline (Jackie) Willett; father Tony Willett; sisters Susan Pierce and April Stanley; brother Russell Willett; her unbelievably supportive brother-in-law Johnny Pierce and great aunt Harriet. She also leaves behind several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, and many other family members whom she loved dearly.
Ashley is preceded in death by her stepfather Brent Stanley, grandparents Ronnie and Joan Danielson; great grandparents Henry and Hilda Danielson; great grandparents Joseph and Mary Thompson; grandmother Catherine Delosreyes; great grandparents James Willett and Catherine I. Willett; and aunt/godmother Ronda Copeland.
