Ashwinkumar D. Bhavsar

Ashwinkumar D. Bhavsar was born on April 14, 1945, in Mombasa, Kenya. Mr. Bhavsar is the perfect example of an immigrant coming to America and fulfilling the American dream. He attended Mombasa Technical Training Institute and attained a diploma in mechanical engineering and craft practice in 1968. He had his first job as a machinist at the East Africa Glass Factory in Uganda, Kenya.
In 1971, he moved to London, England, after South Asians were deliberately kicked out of Uganda by Idi Amin. In June of 1971, he married Ms. Ramaben Bhavsar from Mumbai, India and had 2 daughters, Priti Bhavsar and Hema Bhavsar. They made a home together in Leicester, England. On Thanksgiving Day, in 1983, Ashwin and his family immigrated to the United States and started working in the hotel industry in New York. Without any higher education, he became an owner, shareholder and manager of various hotels. After retiring from the hotel business, he managed gas stations, owned 2 liquor stores in Litchfield County, Connecticut, and purchased investment properties. Ashwin worked hard and managed to cultivate his business and made many relationships with customers. His generosity were not random acts of kindness, it was a way of life.
Ashwin enjoyed the company of his son in laws, Rajesh Devram and Raj Bala, as well as, the company of his grandchildren, Arya, Zara, Rohit, and Satya. The last 4 years of his life, Ashwin battled Parkinson's disease and dementia.
Ashwin found solace and happiness reminiscing about his childhood in Africa. He often told stories to his family and friends about the beautiful beaches and ocean in Mombasa. Most importantly, Ashwin took great pride in his two daughters and taught them to be independent and the importance of attaining a higher education. Ashwin passed away peacefully in the presence of his family.
A funeral pooja will be held on Saturday, January 3, 10:30 a.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor.
