Robert Ellis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Feb. 17, 2026.
Robert (Bob) Ellis of Windsor, age 89, passed away on February 15, 2026 as he lived his life, peacefully, without fanfare and in the comfort of his beloved family. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite (Polly), two daughters, Kathryn Ellis of Pelham, NY and Christina Moyes of New Tripoli, PA, and five grandchildren. Also left behind was a dry sense of humor often imposed upon unsuspecting strangers as well as friends and family.

Bob was born and raised in Omaha, NE by his father, William and mother, Elizabeth, attended the University of Missouri and served two years in the US Army after which he moved to San Francisco in search of his wife Polly. He found her after five years of extensive "socializing" and they were married in 1965. At the time, Bob was the Computer Operations Manager for the Pacific Branch of the Glens Falls Insurance Company, transferring to Glens Falls, NY in 1968. He later moved to the Hartford area where he worked 22 years in Information Management for the Hartford Insurance Group. Upon his "retirement", he continued to work for another 10 years as a Senior Technical Writer for Allied Resources Corporation in East Hartford.

Bob was an avid golfer, a long-time fan of the Boston Red Sox, won several local Toastmaster awards, wrote and published a community newsletter as well as an annual family calendar, and enjoyed making people laugh. While many wind down in retirement, Bob was just getting started, fulfilling his lifelong passions of writing and entertainment. In his later years, he served ten years on the Board of Directors of the UConn Adult Learning Program, devoted to the ongoing education of retirees. He developed a 10-hour presentation in which he provided an in-depth look at the Good Old Days of the 1940's and 50's that he presented to senior centers and retirement communities throughout the Greater Hartford area. In one of his proudest moments, he finally received the standing ovation he so richly deserved. An enthusiastic researcher of cultural history, he subsequently developed similar programs on the Meaning of Nursery Rhymes and The History of Comedy.

Bob's performance career flourished as a founding cast member of the Windsor Senior Center Players Troupe, where he contributed his golden voice and comedic timing to recreate live radio plays of classic episodes of Fibber McGee and Molly, The Burns and Allen Show, and The Baby Snooks Show at the Vintage Radio and Communications Museum of Connecticut.

A devoted father, dedicated husband and loyal friend, he was a constant source of humor, entertainment and never-ending support for those around him. He leaves a legacy of lives enriched by his stories, love and friendship.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, February 21st at 2:00pm at Carmon Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Avenue, Windsor, CT. A reception will follow at 3:30pm at the Walden Woods meeting house, On the Green, Windsor, CT. Friends, family and fans are invited to join in celebrating Bob's stories. Gifts can be made in his honor to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 56 Commerce Dr., Trumbull, CT 06611.
