Assunta Caparelli (nee Tirelli), age 77, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025 at
Lightways Hospice Home, Joliet, IL. Born on August 31, 1947 in Naples, Italy to the late Carmella and Salvatore Tirelli. She was a loving mother to Lisa (Tom) Caparelli-Ruff. Devoted Nonni to Nicolas (Julianna) and Luke Ruff. Beloved sister to Pasquale, Maria (deceased), Consglia (Bob), Anna Maria, Rita, Pasqualina, Patrizia and Rosaria. Loving Zia to John, Angela and Bobby Berna and Leslie, Kenny and Dino and many other nieces and nephews in Italy.
Assunta brought the warmth and liveliness of her Italian roots to everything she touched. For 30 years, Assunta graced the restaurant industry with her impeccable work ethic and culinary passion. She dedicated two decades of service as a server, where her delightful presence left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of meeting her. Assunta's love for food and her cultural heritage seamlessly merged when she spent the subsequent ten years as a chef, infusing traditional Italian cuisine with an embrace that seemed to reach out from the very dishes she lovingly prepared.
Assunta's zest for life extended into her personal interests as well. Her flower gardens were a vivid tapestry that mirrored the beauty and complexity of her soul. A devout Catholic, she held her faith close to her heart, finding joy and solace in the traditions and community of the church. Assunta's admiration was not reserved for the saints alone, as she could often be found cheering exuberantly for Joe Montana and her beloved San Francisco 49ers, a team she followed with unwavering loyalty.
Living boldly and without reservation, Assunta was renowned for speaking her mind, you always knew exactly how she felt and what she was thinking. She approached every conversation with honesty and a remarkable ability to connect deeply with others. Her Italian heritage was a proud flag she carried throughout her life, embedding the love for her culture in the hearts of those around her.
Assunta's care and affection were boundless. Known to many as a second mother, she loved fiercely and without hesitation. Her embrace was a sanctuary, her advice a compass, and her kitchen a place where friends and family gathered, not just for the sustenance of her food, but for the comfort of her presence.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a woman who truly was a mother to everybody, touching lives with her authentic spirit and passion for life. Her legacy will continue to flourish in the hearts and memories of all who loved her.
A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home with her funeral service at 1pm.
