Assunta Pittarelli Obituary

Assunta (Sue) Pittarelli, a loving wife, mother, Nonna, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025.

Born in Boiano, Italy, on August 14, 1949, her life was one of adventure and love from the very beginning. At the age of five, she immigrated to the United States, traveling from Naples, Italy, to Ellis Island. She made the journey on St. Patrick's Day and she fondly referred to this trip as her "very first cruise."

She dedicated 22 years of her career as the trusted bookkeeper for Wilmington Montessori School before retiring. Sue had a passion for traveling and seeing as much of the world as she could, but her greatest joy was found in her home, where she loved to entertain. She had a gift for making friends feel like family. A cherished tradition she passed on was the magnificent Feast of the Seven Fishes dinner she and Emilio lovingly prepared for her family each Christmas Eve.

Her legacy of love and family continues through her survivors. She is deeply missed by her devoted husband, Emilio; her children, Steve, Cristina (Rob) Strain; and her four beloved grandchildren who were the light of her life: Joey, Victoria, Lucas, and Cole. To them, she was their adoring Nonna.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7th, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at St. Helena's Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am. Interment to follow mass at Cathedral Cemetery.
