Athanasia Stefanou, age 83 passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023. Athanasia (Sia) was born on July 12, 1939 in Patras, Greece. When she was 12 years old her parents Nicholas and Mary (Stergiou) Brought Sia and her sister, Betty, to the United States where they settled in Brooklyn, NY.
After graduating from prospect high school, Sia worked as as a secretary in Manhattan at a law firm until she married Diogenes Stefanou in 1960.
After twenty years in Brooklyn, they moved to Bellmore, Long Island in 1982, then to Babylon. Diogenes passed away in 2004, and Sia moved to Massapequa until the present.
She is survived by her son, Anthony (Genevieve Kinney), and daughter Maria (Ron Reinken)along with 3 granddaughters Mia Stefanou, Alexia Castle (Joey Horner), and Victoria Castle, her beloved sister Betty Diamantis and her nephews and niece, Norman, Nicholas, Lisa Caruso (Guilio) and William, and sister in law Alice Stefanou, and nieces, Lisa Bennett (Dean) and Laine Carter (Brett).
Friends and family remember Sia as warm, loving, and kind mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Sia developed a passion for sharing music through chat groups and spent time developing new friendships aroung the globe.

Memories galore of us growing up.....the laughter, all the Greek dancing, our families, visiting at your parents apartment, eating all the Greek food our parents made, Easter gatherings at Aunt Puppy´s house....all the nameday parties, all our wedding and lots of love!!! Now you are reunited with Dick and that gives me comfort. There is nothing like cousins to share our life! Memory eternal Sia. With love, Christine
