Atley Fontenot, Jr., a beloved figure in his community, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, at Flannery Oaks Guest House in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born on June 24, 1939, in Mamou, Louisiana, to Hadley and Sarah Lejeune Fontenot.

Atley Paul Fontenot, Jr., age 86, a beloved figure in his community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Flannery Oaks Guest House in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born on June 24, 1939, in Mamou, Louisiana.

Visitation for Atley will be held in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Atley Paul Fontenot, Jr. will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Skip Motet Memorial Chapel in Opelousas, LA. Pastor Bob Fruen and Pastor Devin England will conduct the service. Burial will be held in the First Pentecostal Church Cemetery in Bayou Rouge, LA.

Atley worked offshore for many years. He was known not only for his commitment to his career but also for his vibrant spirit and love for life. Family traditions were cherished by Atley, particularly the Cajun heritage that he proudly embraced. He enjoyed speaking Cajun French to his family and friends, sharing memories and laughter that brought warmth to gatherings.

An avid outdoorsman, Atley relished deer hunting and found great joy in making homemade sausage. His love for cooking extended to tending to his vegetable garden and caring for his chickens, which became a source of pride and satisfaction.

Atley is survived by his sons, Dale Keith Fontenot and Jody Paul Fontenot (Vickie); his daughter, Amy Brooke Fontenot (Jason); his grandchildren, Brittany Fontenot, Dale Keith Fontenot, Jr., John Peltier, Sarah Hendricksen, and Troy Ledoux; as well as his great-grandchildren, McKenzie Hudspeth, Jace Hendricksen, Victoria Fontenot, Ethan Fontenot, Creed Fontenot, and Andi Jade LaBove.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hadley Fontenot, Sr. and Sarah Lejeune Fontenot; his wife, Elwanda Lavergne Fontenot; his daughters, Sheryl Odom, Paula Fontenot, and Julia LeBlanc; his sister, Grada Belle Fontenot; and his grandchildren, Christian Peltier and Brandi Perry.

Atley's legacy will undoubtedly live on through the many lives he touched, as he will be remembered for his love, his laughter, and his unwavering dedication to family and tradition.
