Auddie Simmons Sr. Life Reflections
Auddie Simmons, Sr., the son of the late Cannon Simmons, Sr. and Mamie W. Simmons, was born on June 14, 1947, in the Long Ridge Community of Berkeley County. Bro. Auddie transitioned from this life on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Trident Medical Center.
Auddie attended the public schools of Berkeley County and later became a member of Greater St. James AME Church. He then went on to join the Job Corps, where he spent time in Spokane, Washington, and learned the trade of plumbing - a skill he practiced throughout the majority of his life.
After his time in the Job Corps, he relocated with his brother, Cannon Jr., to Freeport/Roosevelt, New York, where they established a small, tight-knit community of young migratory men so well integrated that a street was named after their home community of Long Ridge (Moncks Corner). During this time, he met and married Josie Nelson of Roosevelt, NY, in 1968. Over a period of 13 years, they went on to have five children.
After the dissolution of their marriage, Auddie returned to the Longridge Community, where he met his life partner of more than 40 years, Gloria Lawrence. Together, they built a beautiful life and home until his passing. Auddie worked at Gates Rubber Company and continued to practice his beloved plumbing trade until his retirement due to health issues.
Auddie was an avid hunter who was never afraid to move through the local FAWNA - AKA (WOODS & SWAMP!). Throughout his years as a hunter, Auddie never lost his bearings and was as skilled as anyone in the community, except for his father, Cannon Sr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cannon Simmons, Sr. and Mamie W. Simmons; his brothers, Cannon Simmons, Jr. and Nathaniel Simmons; and his daughter, Corrine C. S. Rivera.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his children: Darrell (Barbara) Simmons, Mamie E. Simmons, Auddie (Cydell) Simmons, Jamaine (Crystal) Simmons, and Regina Lawrence-Bissel (the late John Bissel); 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings, Alvine M. (Isaac) Blalock and The Honorable Rev. Leonard (Kathleen) Simmons; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
