Audrey J. Brettmann, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully from natural causes on November 1, 2025, in Berrien Springs, Michigan, at the age of 68. Born on April 27, 1957, in Winamac, Indiana, Audrey's life was a testament to the power of selflessness and faith.
The daughter of the late Erwin H. and Margaret Rose (Lilly) Brettmann, Audrey grew up in a bustling household that was always filled with warmth and laughter. Though she faced the loss of her beloved son, Justin Good, her son-in-law, Donald Olson, and her brothers Jay, Thomas, and Gayland Brettmann, Audrey's unwavering spirit and nurturing nature remained the cornerstone of her existence.
Audrey's journey through life was shared with her longtime companion, William "Bill" Cheney, with whom she built a life in Berrien Springs. Together, they have a loving family that includes Melissa Olson of LaPorte, Indiana; Susan (Bill) Woodruff of Tennessee; Jeffrey (Kelli) Good of Culleoka, Tennessee; Billy (Lindsey) Miller and James (Christine) Miller, both of LaPorte, Indiana, Courtney Paige Cheney and Brittney Cole Cheney of Tullahoma, Tennessee. Her legacy continues through her daughter-in-law, Kimberley Good of Culleoka, Tennessee; her twenty-six grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
Audrey's siblings, Marty (Eldon) Gall of Laporte, Indiana, Charlene (Ray) Miller of Knox, Indiana, Diana (Roger) Ritchie of Berrien Springs, Michigan, Lonny (Vicki) Brettmann of La Crosse, Indiana, and Charles (Judy) DeGroot of Indianapolis, will remember her as a guiding light and a source of constant support. Her extended family of nieces, nephews, and the countless lives she touched will forever cherish the memories of her kindness.
Throughout her life, Audrey embraced various roles with enthusiasm and a caring heart. A devoted homemaker, she also ventured into the workforce, taking on jobs as a truck driver, waitress, and short-order cook. Her versatility and work ethic were as commendable as her ability to make everyone around her feel at home.
Audrey's Christian faith was a vital aspect of her life. It shaped her into the loving, generous, and selfless woman that so many admired. She expressed her love through her amazing cooking and baking, creating dishes that were as much a comfort to the soul as they were a delight to the palate.
A dog lover to the core, Audrey saw the goodness in all of God's creatures and treated them with the same compassion she showed to people. Her big heart and open arms made her home a sanctuary for anyone in need of care or company.
The words loving, generous, and selfless not only describe Audrey but also embody the way she lived her life. She never hesitated to put others before herself, and her unwavering dedication to her family and friends will remain an inspiration to all who knew her.
In keeping with Audrey's wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately.
