Audrey Calavan Obituary

Audrey was born in Vermillion, South Dakota on March 5, 1933 to Charles and Emeline Rentsch and passed away on November 14, 2025. Her family resided in Mitchell, South Dakota until 1942 when they moved to Puyallup, Washington. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and sister, Lorraine (Gregg) Friberg.

Audrey was an accomplished violinist and enjoyed her years with the orchestra. She was also very active in high school drama productions and was the Puyallup High School Daffodil Princess in 1950.

Audrey met and began dating, the love of her life, Joel as a sophomore in high school. Both graduated from Oregon State University where Joel had a football scholarship and played for the Beavers for three seasons. Audrey finished college in three years with a degree in education to be done as Joel moved to Portland to attend dental school. Audrey was a proud member of Chi Omega sorority.

Audrey and Joel were married on June 5, 1954. Joel began dental school while Audrey taught in the Portland Public Schools for the next four years. After Joel's graduation from dental school they moved to Burien, Washington where Joel established his dental practice and Audrey taught in the Highline School District.

In 1959 they were blessed with a son, Charles, followed by another son, Stanton in 1964. The family moved to Edgewood in 1965 and were delighted with the birth of a daughter, Kay in 1967.

Audrey was active in Children's Orthopedic Society in Burien, church activities, her PEO affiliation, and her interior design work. However, raising her children was her first priority along with assisting her husband as the bookkeeper for his dental practice. She and Joel enjoyed the achievements of their children and their wellbeing was always their greatest priority.

Audrey is survived by her husband Joel, whom she loved for 77 years, sons Chuck (Teri), grandchildren Cody and Paige; Stan (Shirley), her daughter Kay (Andrew) McDonald, and granddaughters, Kate (Matt) and Jane.

At Audrey's request a private family service has been planned.
