Audrey P. Chrystal, a spirited soul cherished by many, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family in
Matawan, New Jersey, on February 20, 2026. Born on June 16, 1929, in
Nutley, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Westlake) Heaney. Audrey's life was a tapestry of dedication and vibrant energy that touched all who knew her.
Audrey's journey began in the town of her birth, where she grew up surrounded by the love of her family. It was at a local dance that she met the love of her life, Robert F. Chrystal. Their hearts aligned, and they were married on January 26, 1957. Together, they built a life filled with love. In 1963, they planted their roots in
Matawan, New Jersey, where they raised their family and created countless cherished memories.
A dedicated professional, Audrey spent many years as a Pharmaceutical Tech for Hoffman-La Roche in
Nutley, New Jersey. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in all she did, and she was well-respected by her colleagues.
Audrey's interests were as colorful as her personality. She had a profound love for flowers and gardening, finding solace and joy in the beauty of nature. Her passion for shopping was well known, especially her fondness for Hobby Lobby, where she could often be found perusing the countless aisles. A culinary enthusiast, Audrey loved to cook and bake, always ready to delight her family with delicious treats. Her love for candy was legendary, and she never missed an opportunity to indulge her sweet tooth.
Family was the cornerstone of Audrey's life. She cherished spending time with her loved ones and was a source of strength and inspiration for them. Her feisty and stubborn personality was balanced by her warm heart and generous spirit, making every moment memorable.
Audrey leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. She is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Mary (Westlake) Heaney, her beloved husband Robert, her siblings, Eileen, Ann, James, and Fred, and her granddaughter Alexis Carnahan. She is survived by her devoted children, Kathleen Bloomer and husband Robert of Sanford, North Carolina, Donna Chrystal and partner Tom Schultz of Forked River, Robert Chrystal of Matawan, and Stacey Zinni and husband Anthony of Holmdel. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Thomas Carroll and wife Sharon of Raleigh, North Carolina, Robert Chrystal and wife Korie of Old Bridge, Megan Carroll of Angier, North Carolina, Christopher Carnahan and wife Carissa of Meza, Arizona, Leann Carnahan of Middletown, Sean Carnahan and wife Jessica of Navarre, Florida, Andrea Fasciano and husband Rich of Wilmington, Delaware, Anthony Zinni of Dallas, Texas, Samantha Zinni of Alexandria, Virginia, and Michael Zinni of Holmdel, who will carry forward her indomitable spirit. Audrey's great-grandchildren, Ava and CJ Carnahan, Ariana, Kaiya,
and Haven Valentin, Alexis and Easton Carnahan, Gage and Isabella Kitchen, Gabriella and Cristian Fasciano, Maisie and Alaric Carroll, and Jett Chrystal, will grow up hearing tales of their remarkable great-grandmother. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Patty Warnke, Alan Hahn, Sharon Heaney Oldham, Teresa Hiter, Dawn Chrystal Manteca, Brian Rietzke, and Stephen Rietzke.
Audrey P. Chrystal lived a life full of passion, strength, and love. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In respect of Audrey's wishes, she was privately cremated. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North,
Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A prayer service will be offered at the funeral home at approximately 6:00 PM. Audrey will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Robert, at Holmdel Cemetery Mausoleum in Holmdel, New Jersey.
