Kathleen A. (Malina) Grip 82 of Clifton died peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026, with her family by her side. Born in Hackensack to John Paul & Mary Catherine Cecelia (Geraghty) Malina, she lived in Weehawkin where she graduated from Weehawkin High School. Kathleen also lived in Matawan and Wayne before moving to Clifton 8 years ago. As a young girl, she and her sister Patricia love to play on the school basketball team. Kathleen was a Girl Scout and volunteered as a candy striper in a hospital.
While married Kathleen resided in
Matawan, NJ. She loved to plant flowers, kept a spotless home, spent numerous summers teaching John and Tricia to swim in the pool. Kathleen loved to do needlepoint and ceramics. As well she volunteered to help elementary school children who had difficulty with reading.
After moving to Wayne, she took up piano lessons with Tricia and was so proud of being able to play Moonlight Sonata. Kathleen was always interested in Egypt and took some courses with her sister at Ramapo College to learn more about it.
Kathleen loved reading books on the West, Mysteries and anything to do with medical subjects. She taught herself transcribing and worked as a Medical Transcriber for St. Joseph's Hospital in Wayne until her retirement in 2018. Kathleen also worked for Medical Park Imaging and the Radiology Imaging Center both in Wayne and managed a radiology office in Paterson NJ for years. Prior to marriage she worked for a textile company in New York.
Kathleen was a member of First Lutheran Church in Clifton. She was a dedicated fan of the TV show "Law & Order" and enjoyed watching ice skating, knitting, crocheting and sewing. She loved spending time with her "fur babies", dogs Alex & Eva and missed her cats Jack & Sylvester after they passed.
When she moved in with Tricia and her husband Carlos, she made numerous dinners, so they did not have to cook when we came home. She loved learning new recipes and enjoyed a glass of sangria at night with dinner. Kathleen loved clothes and makeup as she always loved to sew. She didn't sew for many years while she was working but when she moved to Clifton, she picked it up again like she had never stopped. It was a natural for her.
Kathleen loved her family and to them she loved them all the time. She was always proud of them. When living with Tricia she became closer to Tricia's husband Carlos and always told them how grateful she was to live with them and how kind he was to her. When Kathleen was in the hospital in her last days she would always ask where is Cholo? Is he okay? Cholo came to the hospital after work to visit her it would put a big smile on her face.
Kathleen is survived by her son, John Grip Jr. and by her daughter, Tricia Anton & husband Carlos all of Clifton, by her twin sister Patricia Kilkeary and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
