Audrey Marie Goeden, age 95, formerly of Wadena and Verndale, passed away peacefully at Vitality Living in Sebeka, MN on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Audrey was born on January 11, 1930, in Crofton, NE, to William and Alfreada (Haberman) Meyer. On January 12, 1949, she married Gerard Goeden, and they built a life together, making their way to Minnesota in 1956. They raised children and farmed, but always had room for friends, fun and family. They square danced, played cards with neighbors and friends, and shared a love of travel, especially in retirement.
Audrey was kind and generous. She had a positive word for everyone she met; the coffee was always on with a dessert at the ready, and there was an extra seat at the dinner table for whomever needed it. She served her community tirelessly and exhibited compassion and empathy. She ran donation drives in the neighborhood, was treasurer for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and volunteered countless hours with the St. Frederick's Christian Women's group. Her faith was very important to her, and she prayed daily, up at 5:00 am, which may have been the only quiet time she ever got to herself! She was the best mom and the best cook. No one can rival her potato salad, mostly because there's no recipe, and yet it was always perfect. She gardened, canned, sewed, cooked, baked and cleaned full time, for a full house. As a farm wife Audrey was resourceful and strong, but also a kind soul and friend to everyone she knew. She was the communicator in the family, keeping a daily calendar journal, writing letters and sending cards. She never forgot a birthday and made everyone feel loved and special. Oh, and how she loved babies!
Surviving Audrey are her husband Gerard Goeden, her children: Verla (Thom) Johansson of Webb Lake, WI, Bonita Crain of Reno, NV, Jeffrey (Roberta) Goeden of Columbia Falls, MT, Clinton Goeden of Menahga, MN, Amy Goeden of Kalispell, MT, Sharon Neis of Portland, OR, Mary Jo (Robert) Brininger of Kalispell, MT, Carl Goeden of Kalispell, MT, Donna Goeden of Duluth, MN, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Audrey in death were her parents, sisters Shirley and Myria, and infant son, Rodney Earl Goeden.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Vitality Living in Sebeka, MN and Vivie Hospice, for their care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Audrey's memory to the Minnesota-North Dakota chapter of the
Alzheimer's Association, 12701 Whitewater Drive, Suite 290, Minnetonka, MN 55343.
