Audrey Leonard Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 10, 2025.
Audrey Dryden Leonard passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on July 4, 1928, in Miona near New Church, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Dryden. Audrey lived a life filled with compassion, dedication, and love for her family and her faith.

A graduate of Atlantic High School, she became a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to being a homemaker, Audrey helped to run the family farm, tending the chicken houses and the vegetable garden. Over the years, she worked as an assistant mail carrier, a retail associate for Park's Market and Masten's, a Census worker, and eventually became well-known as the Tupperware lady. Yet, her legacy extends far beyond her professional life. Audrey was an active member and leader of Pittsville Methodist Church and later Salem Church in Pocomoke having contributed as a Sunday School teacher, Women's Society of Christian Service leader, United Methodist Women member, and served on many committees and programs. She was a cherished Brownie Scout leader and also led the Accomack County Extension Homemakers where she proudly contributed to her community and spearheaded the creation of the Accomack County flag.

Audrey was beloved for carrying on the family traditions that celebrated love and togetherness. She enjoyed hosting Sunday dinners, assured that Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas gatherings were special occasions, and often hosted card and dinner parties with friends and family.

Audrey's caring nature was evident in her acts of kindness, often baking bread and cookies for those she prayed for. She was a caregiver to those in her family; she even moved her family in with her father to care for him so he could live out his days at home.

She is survived by her devoted children, Sharon Bradshaw (Davis), Jeanette Smolinski (Pete), and George Leonard (Lou Ann); grandchildren, Molly Harrover (Jim), Davis Bradshaw, Jr. (Jessi), Jonathan Bradshaw, Lauren Abell (Kyle), and Rachel Morrissey (Russell); great-grandchildren, Anna, Ella, Millie, and Nate; and nieces and nephews, Jerry Mason, Pat Dryden, Debbie Mills, David Leonard, Orion Leonard, Arnold Leonard, Susan Leonard, and Dawn Leonard.

In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Lewis Leonard, Sr. (Lewis), and her siblings, Archie Dryden, Helen Esham, Madeline Mason, and Elizabeth Marshall.

A visitation will be held at Salem Church on September 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral ceremony at 11:00 AM. Audrey will be laid to rest at Downings Cemetery. As her family and friends gather to celebrate her remarkable life, they will remember Audrey as a pillar of strength and love whose impact is felt by all who knew her.
