Audrey Maddox Obituary

Audrey Swain Maddox, 91, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion to family. She was born on September 22, 1934, and lived a full and meaningful life surrounded by those she cherished most.

Audrey dedicated over 45 years as a school bus driver, faithfully serving the children and families of Spalding County and later Pike County, Georgia. She took great pride in safely delivering generations of students to and from school, becoming a trusted and familiar face in the community.

She had a deep love for adventure and travel, and Alaska was one of her favorite destinations. Audrey was known for her independent spirit and determination. She proudly held a CDL and even drove 18-wheelers in her younger years. She also loved riding motorcycles, line dancing and a good margarita.

To her family and a multitude of others, she was lovingly known as "Maw Maw." She was the heart of the family-strong, loving, and always ready with wisdom, laughter, and encouragement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Marvin Swain; her sister Maryland Swain; her grandchildren Jason Tuffarella, Raelin Maddox, and Leelin Maddox; the father of her children James "Bogan" Maddox; and her daughter-in-law Sharon Funderburg.

She is survived by her children:

Jimmy (Janice) Maddox, Karen Jett, Bunny (Virgil) Scoggins, Chuck Maddox, and Joel (Shirley) Maddox.

Her grandchildren:

Mark (Melissa) Maddox, Dustin Maddox, Michelle (Wayne) Parker, Dawn (David) Campbell, Daniel (April) Jett, Kevin (Jennifer) Duke, Brent (Deanna) Scoggins, Kristarae (Christopher) Merder, Charla Maddox, and Taylor (Catie) Maddox.

Her great-grandchildren:

Dustin (Kaysie) Maddox II, Alex Maddox, Payton Parker, Briana Parker, Briar Parker, Abby Jett, Dakota Jett, Trevor (Kaitlin) Searcy, Hannah Campbell, Hunter Duke, Kolton Duke, Dalton Scoggins, Luke Scoggins, Marshall Merder, Noah Merder, and Aemon Maddox.

She was also blessed with great-great-grandchildren, including Dustin Maddox III and the unborn child of Hannah Campbell.

Audrey's life was defined by hard work, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. Her stories, laughter, and strong spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.

There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Vineyard Baptist Church in Griffin, Georgia.

Maw Maw's love will live on in the hearts of the many lives she touched.
