Audrey Evelyn Riggen, known lovingly as "Memaw," passed from this life on July 15, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on December 20, 1933, she grew up as the youngest of eight children during the Great Depression. She is preceded in death by her husband, Orville Riggen, her parents, Henry and Jennie Foster, and seven siblings.
She is survived by her three sons, Reverend Curtis Riggen (and his wife Sheena) of Savoy, Texas, Reverend Gregory Riggen (and his wife Rhonda), and Kenneth (Rusty) Riggen, both of Olathe, Kansas. She has five grandchildren: Mindy Burdin, Erica Williams, Amber Whatley, Andrea Hilton, and Amanda Uribe, and fifteen great-grandchildren: Curtis Burdin, Presley Burdin, Dalton Williams, Carter Williams, Addy Williams, Emmy Williams, Colin Whatley, Mia Whatley, Gabby Castro, Victor Castro, Reghan Hilton, Morgan Hilton, Camden Hilton, Jackson Uribe, and Ellie Uribe, and a host of other friends and family members.
During her career, she worked as a cashier for various retailers. She was outgoing and easily made a number of friends. In 1972, Audrey encountered a life-changing experience when she was baptized in Jesus' name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost at the United Pentecostal Church of Savoy, Texas. From that time, her faith marked her life. A devout Apostolic Pentecostal, Audrey found deep spiritual solace and community in her faith, significantly influencing her family and those around her.
The following year after Orville's passing in 2014, she and her youngest son moved to Olathe, Kansas, where she became a beloved member of The Truth Church. She would proudly proclaim to anyone who visited that she was "the church's Memaw."
Audrey's legacy is carried on by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, reflecting the values of faith and love she championed. Her life will be celebrated on July 20, 2024, at The Truth Church, located at 11995 S. Monticello Terrace in Olathe, Kansas. Reverend Bill Daniels and Reverend Greg Riggen will officiate. Pallbearers include: Brandon Hilton, D.J. Uribe, Dalton Williams, Carter Williams, Jon Nelson, Josh Santiago, and James Self. Viewing will be at 10:00 AM with funeral service to follow at 11:00.
There will also be a subsequent service at Savoy United Pentecostal Church, located at 519 East Hayes, Savoy, Texas 75479. Reverend Virgil Cornwell and Reverend Robert Eades will officiate. Pallbearers will include: Geron Simpson, Robert Baker, Gavin Millett, Stanley Baker, Chris Elliott, and Brennen Eades. Viewing there will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 22, 2024, with the service beginning at 12:00. This will be followed by interment at Sunnyside Cemetery in Savoy.
