Audrey Wierda Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home on Dec. 11, 2025.
Audrey Wierda, age 91, of Holland Michigan, met her Savior and was reunited with her husband Franklin (Frank) Wierda on Thursday, December 4. 2025. She was born on May 25, 1934, to William and Fay Ash. She was preceded in death by her husband Franklin, parents William and Fay Ash, parents-in-laws Frank and Effie Wierda, her brother Gene Ash, her brother Gary Ash, and her brother Alvin Ash. She is survived by her children, Michael, Susan and James Ridlington, Calvin and Michelle Wierda, Paul and Cristy Wierda, Judith and Bert Block, 11 cherished grandchildren, 13 beloved great grandchildren, her sister Shirley Waterway, and her in-laws Shirley Schregardus, Elaine Zwiep, Roger and Nancy Wierda, and Beverly Bos, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Audrey grew up on a farm in Graafschap, graduated from Holland High School and Western College County Normal in Kalamazoo with a degree in education. She began her teaching career at Sunny Side, a one-room school. She married the love of her life Franklin and raised 5 children in Holland. She stayed connected with her children and grandchildren by attending sports events, choir and band concerts, plays and Dutch dance. Even in retirement she retained her teaching spirit and taught Adult ESL and tutored kids in the local schools.

Her love for the gospel and passion for playing the piano would become a ministry in and of itself that she gave back to her church Maple Ave CRC on Sundays and services at area nursing homes. Audrey loved volunteering her time with the MAC Rec program. Audrey loved God and she loved others. Our mom was born into a covenant household of many generations of believers. She was faithful and obedient day after day and year after year. We are thankful to God for the gift of this Godly heritage. Through her we have seen evident that God shows "mercy and steadfast love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments. Exodus 20:6"

A celebration of Audrey's life will be held in the spring at Faith CRC, Holland Mi with Rev Jennifer Ryden officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to a Hospice organization of your choice.
