Augustine John. February 7, 2026. Was preceded in death by his loving wife Joanne. He will be deeply and sincerely missed by his brother Frank Scimeca and his sons Sam Scimeca (Rose), Anthony Scimeca (Corinne) and his grandchildren Samuel Scimeca Jr (Alyssa), Michael Scimeca (Gianna), Daria, Patricia Harty (Vince), Anthony Scimeca Jr (Gabriella), and his cherished great grandchildren Travis, Chase, and Julianna. Also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Augustine came into this world with almost nothing. Orphaned at just two years old after losing his mother only hours after the birth of his brother in 1935, and later abandoned by his father, his life began in hardship. Passed from family to family and eventually placed in a boys' home, Augustine learned early how to survive. At twelve, he and his brother were taken in by their deaf and mute uncle, who raised them while they labored on farms in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Despite never being given the chance to pursue school, Augustine was a gifted artist with an eye for detail and beauty. That natural talent found its way into his hands becoming a skilled upholsterer and furniture finisher, where precision, patience, and pride defined his work. What he couldn't study in a classroom, he mastered through grit and instinct.

Life tried to break him. But it didn't. He built a family, opened Augie's Gym, and became a mentor to countless fighters alongside his longtime business partner, Bobby "Boogaloo" Watts. His gym was one of the best in the city and was even featured in a Rocky movie and in EA Sports Knock Out Kings 2000. One of his proudest moments was being inducted into the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame.

Augustine was stronger than his past, bigger than his pain, and loved far more than he ever knew.

Relatives are friends are invited to his VIEWING Thursday February 12, 2026 9:30am at The Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 11th and Jackson St, Philadelphia, PA. His funeral mass will follow at 11am. Ent. New St. Mary Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation:
