Gus Supan, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
Augustine J. Supan was born in December of 1936 to father, Louis Supan and mother, Anna Yanchar, one of eleven children. Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, Gus graduated from Saint Ignatius High School and continued with his education, receiving his bachelor's degree from John Carrol University. In 1968, he married Janet Lee Gosselin, with whom he had two children, Rob Supan and April Hancock. Gus and Janet were blessed with 25 years together until she preceded him in death on August 17, 1994. He later married Phyllis Lamb, and they enjoyed 25 years together as well.
Gus spent much of his professional career in sales until he eventually turned to ministry, something that had been both a desire and a conviction of his for many years. After pursuing this path the Lord was leading him on, Gus became ordained and fervently served the Lord as a pastor and counselor at Cuyahoga Valley Community Church. Gus faithfully committed a number of years there until his retirement.
Although professionally retired from ministry, Gus never ceased to be a vessel for the Lord's will. His life was defined by sharing the joy of Christ with everyone whom the Lord placed in his path. Gus was incredibly steadfast in prayer, faithful in his support of fellow believers, and passionate in his response to spread the Good News we have in Christ. Many were blessed to personally testify to the profound impact Gus made in their spiritual lives. He and Phyllis faithfully attended Trinity Church in Olmsted Falls.
Gus was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved reading scripture, listening to podcasts and sermons, spending time with family, and watching Cleveland sports. A lifelong Browns fan and a passionate Guardians fan (despite still referring to them as the Indians right up to the end), Gus' passion for these sports was outshined only by his love for Jesus.
Gus will be missed by his surviving wife, Phyllis Supan; son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Tricia Supan, daughter and son-in-law, April and Jay Hancock; three sisters, Barbara (Crawford), Sherrie (Supan), and Annette (Zucca); grandchildren, Emily (Mike) Kent, Jordan (Zach) Schubert, Samantha Supan, Louis Supan, Fuzz Supan, Charlie Supan, Augie Supan, James Hancock, Mac Hancock, Faith Hancock, Owen Hancock, Levi Hancock, Benjamin Hancock, and yet to be named newborn twin great grandsons.
He will also be missed by his step-children, step-daughter Tracy and Heath Ray, step-daughter, Jaime and RJ Hicks, step-son James and Robin Wright. Along with his step-grandchildren, Josiah Hicks, Kaitlyn Hicks, and Owen Wright.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Main Street Care Center for all the compassionate care given to Gus in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "Nepal Relief Fund," care of Trinity Church, 9500 Lindbergh Blvd., Olmsted Falls, OH 44138.
The life and legacy of Gus Supan will be celebrated by his family and friends until we are joined together again with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Well done good and faithful servant.
