Aurora Javier Astorga, passed away in Englewood, Florida on June 6, 2025, surrounded by her family at the age of 99. Born on August 17, 1925 in Gapan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines.
Aurora was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco. She was the loving mother of Renato Sr., Cecilia (James Switzer), Francisco Jr. (Antoniette), Edwin (Charlene), Mildred (Ken Schwarcz), Marinela (Alan Ko), Angel (Susan), Lina (Dominic Perera), Editha (Cris Mina deceased), Jaime (Annie), Edison (Rowena), Ferdinand (Cora), Aurora (Paul Whitecar), and Luchie (Michael Pouncy). Devoted Lola to 35 grandchildren and Super Lola to 18 great-grandchildren.
Aurora completed her Bachelor of Education degree at Far Eastern University in the Philippines, but she never pursued a teaching career. She became a businesswoman and ran cafeteria concessions at four different factories in the Philippines. She served as a senior stenographer for the Philippine Senate. After immigrating to Michigan, she continued her career as Chief Administrator of Personnel for the city of Detroit. She was active in the community and served for one year as president of the Philippine Senior Citizen Association of Michigan and even held the title of Mrs. Philippine Senior Citizen of Michigan.
Aurora cherished her family, often cooking new and delicious meals for them and experimenting on a variety of new recipes in her kitchen. Her dishes were always a hit with everyone whom she welcomed into her home.
Her surviving family remembers her as an incredibly tenacious and courageous woman.
Family will receive friends on Monday, June 16, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, June 17, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service taking place on Tuesday, June 17, at 5:30 p.m. at Wysocki & Wilk Funeral Home, 29440 Ryan Road, Warren, MI 48092. Aurora's Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, June 18. Instate will start at 9:30 a.m. and the Mass will start at 10:00 a.m. at St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church, 2215 Opdyke Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304. Interment to follow at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Philippine American Community Center of Michigan (PACCM), or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, or to the American Heart Association.
