Aurora Castro

Aurora Castro made her journey home on February 19th, where she now rests in the embrace of her Jesus, joining with angels in worship of His holy name. She was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where she lived with her family for 66 years.  

She was our beloved “Rada,” a name given to her in childhood by her little brother, Oscar. She knew how to cure every ailment with her tender touch, natural remedies, and homecooked meals sprinkled with T.L.C.  She cared for many of her family members over the years, especially her parents, nieces, and nephews.

She received many awards in school, and attended the Univeristy of Houston on scholarship. Of all the jobs she had, she was certainly proud of her work as a Department Manager at Walmart. She was a responsible, wise, and loyal associate. But her most meaningful achievement was  her contribution in helping raise her nieces and nephews, seamlessly serving as a second mother to them. The Lord bestowed an anointing on Aurora through which love, care, and kindness freely flowed. Like a gift from Heaven, Aurora imparted her experiences, wisdom, and teaching to develop their abilities and increase their confidence.

Rada was known for her humble and strong character. She never enjoyed being in the spotlight, but she will be an enduring part of our lives. She was loving to everyone in her family, and she did everything she could to help us out if we ever needed anything. She gave generously and sacrificially, without hesitation, even when she didn’t have much. Her love and influence motivated us to become better people, and her impact will carry on through generations — she has changed everything for our own children because of how she helped us. She blessed us beyond measure and made the world a better place for us in so many ways.

She knew how to laugh and have fun!  She enjoyed games like cards, Scrabble, or other board-games. Her favorite was playing adults-only Scrabble with her competitive sisters, where she often scored a 50 point bonus for using all her letters. She found 52-Pick Up amusing, a game she played with her nieces and nephews. And while always the model of decorum and composure, she gleefully pranked her sisters and “the kids;” their shock or fright at her antics evoked her jovial laughter. She loved Coca-Cola, Mexican food, cheesecake, and chocolate. 

The Queen of Crafting, she was creative and skillfull before it became popular or readily accessible. She loved making beautiful things and used her free time to sew, garden, make photo albums, or cook creative, healthy meals. Her food was not only delicious, but magical - she was easily one of the best cooks we’ve ever known. She celebrated holidays by decorating the house for all to enjoy. She brought a special touch to our family, and she taught her nieces and nephews how to use their imaginationg and creativity. She always remembered everyone’s birthdays with a phone call or text and made sure to send sweet gifts; no one was ever forgotten by Rada.

She was incredibly strong in every way: physically, mentally and spiritually.  She faced challenges head-on and did not back down. She was a warrior when it came to taking care of business, confronting obstacles or praying for others. If you had Rada on your side, you were in good hands — she knew how to solve hard problems, make wise decisions, and keep a positive perspective. She had Godly wisdom and loved His Word because she knew the Bible contained all truth from God, and she put her full trust in Him. She clung to Him with unshakeable faith and worshipped Him whole-heartedly. 

Her precious mother, Silvina, preceded her as well as her father, brother, Oscar, a nephew and two nieces.  She will be missed by her sisters, Sylvia, Mary, Carmen, Terry, and Lucy, and her brother, Salvador, and by her adoring nieces and nephews.
