Austin Dekota Kelley, born Dec 19,1997, passed away unexpectedly July 19,2025, in Charleston, West Virginia. He was born December 19, 1997 in Gallipolis, Ohio.

Austin is survived by his mother, Amy Wiseman; father, Roger (Sheila) Kelley Jr.; grandparents, Roger Kelly Sr., Barbara Parker, and Cheryl Wiseman whom he called “Nan”; five brothers: Bill, Zack, Keenan, Tyler, and Bradley; aunts and uncles, John & Stacy Waugh, Jessica Scott, Joshua and Lynn Waugh, and Tammy Mercer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Austin faced significant struggles early on in his life. Addiction had waged war against him, but unfortunately this was a battle he could not win. Although addiction had a strong hold, it did not define who he was to us. Even through the choices he made, good or bad, he was loved by us just the same. To some Austin may have been just another addict, but without judgment and having an open mind you would see he was so much more than that. Beyond the broken parts of him there was a kind fearless young man full of so much love and a grin that was unguarded and playful like a child. But with each passing day Austin was pushed further from the surface as he was being transformed under layers of addictive behaviors to mask guilt and shame. So now we share his story, not in shame, but in strength to honor him as we raise awareness in hopes of saving lives and encouraging compassion and support to those affected by this disease that is devouring the livelihood of our loved ones.

Austin will be met by those who have gone before him including his sister, Lacey West who referred to him as her baby; his grandparents, John & Karen Waugh; uncles, Melvin, Daniel, and Rodney Kelley; great-granny Sis; and many others who loved him dearly.

If you are struggling with addiction, please reach out to get help. No matter how many times you fall, always get up and try again before the story ends with you.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 28th, 2025, from 2PM-6PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson with a service beginning at 6PM with Elder Cheryl Browning Warner officiating. Per his wishes, he will be cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
