Austin O'Connor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burgess Funeral Home & Crematory - Lancaster on Dec. 17, 2025.
LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Austin Charles O'Connor, 68, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 15, 2025.

Born on March 25, 1957, in Pensacola, Florida, Austin was the son of the late Thomas Daniel O'Connor and Marion Hurley O'Connor. He is a graduate of Hingham High School and a proud veteran of the US Navy, having served on the USS Richmond K Turner. Following this, he had a 40-year career with IBM before retiring to South Carolina

Austin rekindled his love for golf in retirement and had a love of the outdoors, finding peace in the beauty of nature and the comradery of friends. He was a life-long enthusiast of New England sports, faithfully cheering on the Red Sox and Patriots and he enjoyed a competitive game of cribbage and getting lost in a good book on a quiet afternoon.

Above all, Austin loved people and was a pillar of his family. He possessed a warmth that drew others to him and a heart that belonged entirely to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Elizabeth "Beth" Brooks Terry O'Connor; his two sons, Ramsey Angelo Alteria III (Christina) of Gastonia, NC, and Patrick Winfield O'Connor (Kristen) of Charlotte, NC; and his three cherished grandchildren, Devin Pearson, Draken Pearson, and Cassandra O'Connor. He also leaves behind a brother, Thomas "Tod" O'Connor (Paula); a sister, Sarah "Sally" Fitzgerald (James); and a large, loving extended family.

Austin was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Marion O'Connor, and his sisters, Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Trevino and Kathleen "Kate" Beeman.

In keeping with his wishes, the family will hold a service to celebrate his life at a later date.
