Austin John Otto, 26, of Egan, SD, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. A memorial service will take place at 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD. A celebration of life will take place starting at 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Wildcats Bar in Colman, SD.

Austin John Otto was born on July 13, 1999, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Nicole (Otto) Schmidt. She raised him alongside Richard Schmidt in Egan, South Dakota. Austin was the second oldest of three siblings. As a child, he was known to be a daredevil.

He attended Colman-Egan High School, where he played football. After high school, he began working various jobs, including Otto Scrapping, pouring concrete for Outkast Construction, and laying water pipes for Winter Brothers Construction.

Austin's son, Wesley, was born on December 26, 2019. His son was his whole world, and the two of them enjoyed raising hell together.

Throughout his life, Austin enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and driving anything with two to four wheels and a throttle; always knowing how fast it could go and how fast he could get to that speed.

Austin is survived by his 5-year-old son, Wesley; parents, Nicole (Otto) Schmidt and Richard Schmidt Jr.; siblings, Madison Otto (Rylee Walz), Cloe Schmidt, and Chloe Schmidt; grandmothers, Donna Grohs and Mildred Schmidt; nephew, Levi Otto; and nieces, Paislee Otto and Bryxleigh Otto; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, Dominic Rettke, and grandfathers, Nick Otto Sr. and Richard Schmidt Sr..
