Austin H. Pase Jr., affectionately known as Bud to his friends and family, completed his earthly journey on August 1, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on August 25, 1944, in Dover, DE, Austin's zest for life and resilient spirit were evident from the start. His final days were spent surrounded by love in Smyrna, DE, where he gently passed away, leaving a legacy of laughter and wisdom.

The son of the late Austin Sr and Emma Pase, Austin grew up in a home filled with warmth and strong values, which he carried throughout his life. His beloved wife, Bette Ann, was the cornerstone of his life, and together they nurtured a family that included their son John Pase (Jennifer) and daughter Jennifer Hall. Austin's joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Courtney Brown (Steven), Gavin Pase, Jordan Pase, Brooke Pase, Liam Stanko, and AJ Hall, and he was overjoyed to be a great-grandfather to Daxten and Dayne Brown.

Austin's siblings held a special place in his heart, with fond memories shared with his brother Richard Pase of Jupiter, FL, and sisters Patricia Conley (Wes), Shirley "Bonny" Biddle, and the late Carole Handsberry (Gene). His extended family included his brothers-in-law, George Staats (Ethel) and the late C. James "Jimmy" Staats (Barbara Ann) of Camden Wyoming, and the late sister-in-law Ruth Ellen Shane (Roy Kenneth "Kenny"). He was a cherished uncle to Gina Handsberry, the late Joy Handsberry, Lisa Handsberry Harp (James), Stacy Cook (Shawn), Deborah "Debbie" Hurd (Brian), the late Ray Staats, Terri Staats, Barbie Tatman (Pork), Perk Staats, Jean Thomas (Matt), Keith Shane (Terri), and Kristin Shane.

Austin's leadership qualities shone through early on as he graduated from John Bassett Moore High School in 1962 as class president. His service in the Air National Guard demonstrated his unwavering commitment to his country. Austin's professional life was nothing short of extraordinary; he played a pivotal role in constructing Neil Armstrong's moon landing space suit while at ILC and later became the only project planner at Hercules. His dedication to his work continued at Sargent and Lundy until he fully embraced retirement.

A man of faith, Austin's Christian beliefs guided him in all aspects of his life, providing comfort, strength, and a good dose of humor. He was an avid hunter, a passion he shared with his brother-in-law Wes Conley. Their hunting escapades, both local and afar, became the stuff of legend, often recounted with a twinkle in his eye and a hearty laugh. Austin dedicated countless hours to coaching both Little Lass and travel softball. But for him, it was never just about the game. He poured his heart into every practice, every game, every huddle; not because he had to, but because he cared deeply. To Austin, the girls he coached weren't just players, they were like daughters. He saw their potential, believed in them, and pushed them to be their best; both on and off the field.

Austin was the embodiment of selflessness, wisdom, and love. He was a jack of all trades, always ready to lend a hand or share advice, often punctuated with a joke that would leave everyone in stitches, which he learned from Kenny. His presence was a blessing to all who knew him.

As we bid farewell to Austin, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a heart that loved unconditionally, and a spirit that brought joy and laughter to every occasion. His stories, his laughter, and his love remain with us, etched in our memories forever. Austin H. Pase Jr., a man who walked in faith and humor, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, and for that, we are eternally grateful.

A viewing will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2025 in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 12 PM. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Smyrna.
