Reverend Avery Sheets

Marion, VA

Reverend William Avery Sheets, age 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at his home in Marion, Virginia.

Avery was born in Chilhowie, Virginia, to the late Neal Sheets and Lavonne Blevins Sheets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Sheets; and his brothers, Lloyd Sheets, Bradley Sheets, and Kecil Sheets. He retired after many years of dedicated service with Brunswick Corporation and General Dynamics.

Reverend Avery Sheets was a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, his church, and his family. He devoted more than 56 years to the ministry, pastoring and serving congregations throughout the region, including Liberty Baptist Church, Calvary Bible Church in Bristol, Valley View Church in Abingdon, Parker's Chapel, Burton's Chapel, New Bethel Church, Wassum Valley Church, and Cedars Baptist Church.

Survivors include. one son, William "Corky" Sheets and devoted daughter-in-law, Carol of Marion, VA; two daughters, Margaret "Cookie" Patterson and devoted son-in-law Andy of Marion, VA; Delena Estridge and devoted son-n-law, Gil of Rich Valley, VA. His joy in life were his grandchildren: Cody Patterson and wife, Shannon; Trey and Jake Estridge; Grayson and Campbell Sheets; and one great-grandson, Lawson Patterson; brother, Roger "Chub" Sheets; sister, Polly Barr.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia for the excellent care provided; to Avery's church family at Cedars, whom he truly cherished and loved; and to Eddie and Beth Hamm, his devoted neighbors, and cherished friends.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Cedars Baptist Church with Pastor Ernie Powers, Pastor Andy Blevins, and Pastor Cody Boone officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM prior to services. Interment will be on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Grosses Creek Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at Cedars Baptist Church at 10:00AM for the funeral procession.
