Awilda Giannese, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 9, 2025. She is reunited with her loving husband, Vincent Giannese, her father Francisco Rodriguez, her mother Juana Carrion, and many of her siblings who passed before her.
Awilda was the proud mother of three children: Venus Marino, Jerry “Butch” Fields (Cheri), and Rob Giannese (Catherine). She was affectionately known as “Nana” by her grandchildren, a role she cherished deeply. She adored every one of them and could spend hours on the phone or FaceTime, eager to hear about their lives and adventures.
Her love will live on through her six grandchildren: Amber Marino (with her daughter Olivia), Caitlyn Kostecki (Tyler, with their daughter Shea), Ian Fields, Michael Marino (with his daughter Nora), Lucca Giannese, and Nicco Giannese. She also leaves behind her three great-grandchildren: Olivia, Shea, and Nora.
Awilda came from a large family of 16 brothers and sisters. For many years, she owned a hair salon in Hillside, Illinois, where she built lasting friendships with her clients and co-workers. Known for her quick wit and big laugh, she brought joy not only to her customers but also to her family and loved ones.
A woman of deep Catholic faith, Awilda lived her life with love, generosity, and devotion to her family. She especially loved hosting holiday gatherings—Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve were her pride and joy—where family would come together to share food, laughter, and memories that will be cherished forever.
Beyond her work and family traditions, Awilda found joy in music, cooking, crocheting afghans for newborns, and flipping through her favorite gossip magazines. But above all, she loved her family. Her laughter, warmth, and boundless love will be remembered always by those fortunate enough to have known her.
Friends and family will meet for visitation on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 10AM-12PM at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL. The funeral service will then begin at 12PM.
