Shirley Violet Bastounes, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, fell asleep in the arms of our Lord on September 13, 2025, at the age of 96.
She is survived by her loving children: Dean Bastounes, Rene’ (Tom) Haisma, Greg (Linda) Bastounes, and Heather (John) Truckenbrod; her cherished grandchildren, Leah and Taylor; and her precious great-grandchildren, Ruby, Nick, Dina, and Chloe.
Shirley was preceded in death by her devoted husband of over 50 years, George Bastounes; her mother, Martha Hirsch; her sister, Carolyn-Ann Poole; and many dear relatives who now welcome her home in Heaven.
She will be remembered for her incredible strength and grace - courageously navigating the challenges of a debilitating disease during the prime of her life - and for her steadfast faith in God and unwavering devotion to her family.
Shirley’s faith was her anchor. She was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and a generous supporter of many Christian ministries she believed were serving God’s purpose. She found joy in collecting and cherished nothing more than time spent with her family.
She was a beloved aunt, cousin, godmother, and friend to many, all of whom will miss her deeply.
Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 9:00–11:00 a.m. at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with interment at Warren Cemetery.
