Ayva Engelhardt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Provenzano Lanza Funeral Home Inc. on Mar. 18, 2026.
Ayva Sha Engelhardt, affectionately known to all as "Ayva," was a beacon of light and kindness in a world that often needed it. Born on September 20, 1952, in the bustling neighborhood of Harlem, New York, Ayva's journey began in the corridors of Harlem Hospital, where she was introduced to the vibrant tapestry of life that would shape her extraordinary existence. On March 16, 2026, at the age of 73, Ayva's vibrant spirit found its heavenly abode at The Palms Garden Center Nursing & Rehabilitation.

Ayva's life was rich with academic achievements and professional accolades. She was a lifelong scholar, having graced the halls of Hunter College in Manhattan, where her passion for learning was ignited. Further quenching her thirst for knowledge, Ayva pursued a degree in Criminal Justice at John Jay College in September 2004. Her academic journey culminated in a Bachelor of Science from the University of the State of New York in January 1990, a testament to her unwavering dedication and intellect.

Her career was marked by a commitment to excellence and service, as evidenced by her certification from The Methodist Hospital School of Medical Technology in 1989. Ayva's professional contributions were recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation from Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer, a Brain Injury Association of New York State Certificate of Completion in October 2001, and a Social Security Benefits Training Certificate in May 2010. These accolades were not just mere certificates but markers of her tireless efforts to make a difference in the lives of others.

Ayva's interests were as diverse as they were profound. She was a seeker of knowledge, always delving into the mysteries of new scientific diseases, and had an insatiable curiosity about law and science. Her home was a sanctuary for her beloved cat fur babies, Baby Lala, and she was the doting aunt to grand-nephew fur babies Ziggy and Aspen. Ayva found solace in the classics, be it the soothing strains of classical music or the timeless charm of old black-and-white movies. Her zest for life was also evident in her love for a good cocktail and her unique tradition of giving gifts to others on her own birthday, a true reflection of her selfless spirit.

Ayva was the embodiment of intelligence, kindness, and generosity. Her wicked sense of humor was a source of joy and laughter for all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a friend who never forgot a birthday, a relative who showered her family with love, and a community member who uplifted those around her with her unwavering support.

While her earthly journey has concluded, Ayva leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide. She is lovingly remembered by her niece Denise Hackworth, sister-in-law Dee Rogers, step-children Vicky, Ronnie, and James Rogers, and her cherished cat Baby Lala. Though predeceased by her parents Jimmi and Emma Jean Rogers, brothers James and Ronnie Rogers, and husband Freddy Engelhardt, the love and memories shared with them will forever be a part of Ayva's enduring story.

Ayva Sha Engelhardt's life was a symphony of love, laughter, and learning. Let us honor her memory by embracing the virtues she exemplified: to live with purpose, to learn with passion, and to love without limits. Rest in peace, dear Ayva; your light shines on.
