B.D. Nation, 89, of Blossom, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on September 22, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, September 26, 2025 in the Knights of Honor Cemetery in Blossom. Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM Thursday, September 25, 2025 at the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.
B.D. was always a cowboy at heart and believed in the value of hard work. At a young age, B.D. ventured to the big city of Ft. Worth and found work setting up bowling pins by night while looking for more steady work during the day. He even worked for a time for the Pitchfork Ranch before working his way up in the construction and concrete industry. B.D. eventually established a name for himself in the concrete business and was finally able to return home to Blossom. Over time, his shrewd business sense led him to purchase the Blossom Feed Store and co-found Nation Brothers Fertilizer with his brother, James.
B.D. loved the outdoors and was very rarely found inside (unless the Rangers were playing). He could often be found each evening sitting outside and enjoying the country life. He enjoyed hunting and had a deep love for his dogs, horses and cattle. B.D. spent countless days riding, working cows, fishing, squirrel hunting, and running his bulldozers. He also found joy in playing 42 and shooting dice with friends.
Throughout his life, B.D. owned and traded cattle, horses, and dogs-always with skill, passion, and a keen sense of value. Even in his later years, he stayed active in the cattle business, never losing his love for checking cows or moving dirt and pushing down trees with his dozer. But nothing gave B.D. more joy than being a great grandfather, or BB as his grandkids and great grandkids refered to him. He was fiercely protective of his great grandchildren - even when it came to the discipline their parents would try to use on them, the same discipline he expected of his kids and grandkids. Not a big one for hugs and softness, he was a different man with them. He cherished every moment spent with them, offering gentle wisdom, quiet strength, and a constant presence that made them feel deeply loved.
B.D. Nation was a true cowboy, a man of grit and integrity and a beloved friend and family member to many. His legacy will live on in the land he loved and in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him. B.D. did not see himself as someone of great importance, but he was looked up to and admired by so many. The shadow he leaves behind stretches farther than he could have ever imagined.
He is preceded in death by his wife Pat Nation, his parents, in-laws, and 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by his sons, Mike Nation, wife Sherry, Mark Nation, wife Julie, special nephew, Alan Dabbs and his sister-in-law, Erma Nation, grandchildren, Dustin Nation (Jala), Chastiti Briggle (Jorry), Josh Nation, Kara Willis (Jake), Autumn Harris (Justin) , Dakota Nation (Kati), great grandchildren, Scout, Jay, Cobi, Channing, Jagger, Bristyl, Cree, JoJo, Anderson, Beau, Aubrey, Briar, Liv, Sunny and another on the way and special friend Peggy Buster-Robinson, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Chambers Hospice for the care they provided and Karen who spent the last few days helping care for him.
