B. Madonna Kakacek, age 90, of Pocahontas, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Arlington Place in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Blanche Madonna Wagner was born July 10, 1932 to George and Blanche (Hotovec) Wagner of Havelock, Iowa. She attended Havelock Consolidated School until 1940 when her parents moved to a farm east of Pocahontas where she attended country school. In 1945, she attended Sacred Heart School, Pocahontas and graduated in 1950. Following graduation, she attended Iowa State College for one year. After her education, she was employed by Montgomery Ward in Fort Dodge and Meredith Publishing Company in Des Moines. On November 21, 1953, Madonna was united in marriage to Louis Kakacek and they moved to a farm west of Pocahontas. In 1957, they settled on a farm east of Pocahontas where they farmed until his retirement in 1992, due to ill health. Louis passed away on December 26, 1993. She worked as office assistant for Farm Bureau from 1979 until 1991, when she retired in order to take care of Louie in his illness. From 1994 to 2009, she was employed at the Resurrection church office as bookkeeper for both the Church and Pocahontas Catholic School. She moved into Pocahontas in 1997, then to the Arlington Place in 2015.
Madonna was a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, Catholic Ladies Society, CD of A, Pocahontas Literature Club, MNO Card Club, Catholic Missionary Ladies, and served as a communion minister for 20 years. She enjoyed the friendship of the parish for many years. In her spare time, Madonna enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, traveling, cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet (Richard) Bordwell of Clarion; sons, Dennis (Karen) Kakacek of Watertown, SD, Al (Denise) Kakacek of Pocahontas, Ron (Leah) Kakacek of Pocahontas, Larry Kakacek of Sioux City and Jim (Tonia) Kakacek of Pocahontas; 16 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchilren; 32 great-grandchildren; brother, Loren (Rosalita) Wagner of Des Moines, and sisters, Mary Lee Phelan of Johnston and Juanita (Greg) McCabe of Johnston.
Madonna was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; parents; grandson, Brandon Kakacek; sister, Kathleen Specht, and brothers, Virgil and Richard Wagner.
