Barbara Louise Astling, 85, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, while residing at the Medilodge in Ludington.
Barbara Louise Golder was born on July 24, 1940, to the late Edward and Lena (Bartz) Golder. Though she was born in the city of Detroit, Barb spent all of her school years in the Alpena/Hubbard Lake area. Life eventually took her downstate, initially to Battle Creek and then to White Pigeon. There she married Richard Astling on June 17, 1972. They where married for 52 years until his death on June 26, 2024. Barb worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance, and later she became a teacher's aide in the White Pigeon school system. She also provided secretarial help at Messiah Lutheran Church in Constantine. When Richard retired from Gray Brothers Stamping, the two moved north to the Scottville area. She enjoyed these final years, being in the country, surrounded by woods and wildlife.
She is survived by her son, the Rev. Greg McCallum (from a previous marriage to Paul McCallum). Additionally, she is survived by a stepdaughter, Arlene Hart, by stepsons, Robert Astling, Terry Astling, Joseph Astling, and by seven step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by one stepson, Thomas Astling.
Visitation will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, in Hubbard Lake on Tuesday, August 12, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Bryan R. Salminen officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
