BARBARA ANN AUSTINSON

Barbara A. Austinson, 94, (nee Walchli) passed away October 30, 2025. Beloved wife of Chester (deceased); dear daughter of Edith and Edward Walchli (deceased); devoted and loving mother of Todd (Holly); loving grandmother of Danielle (Aaron) Natyshak and Aaron Austinson; loving companion of William Kress (deceased); sister of the late Edward Walchli and John Walchli.

Barbara was born and raised in Rocky River, Ohio, and graduated from Rocky River High School, class of 1949. She was a 1953 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, Bachelor of Arts, and in 1960 earned her Masters of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin. She taught kindergarten at Wooster school in Rocky River and became a friend and colleague of those who were once her teachers. After 9 years of teaching, she retired to be a stay at home mom for her son, Todd. Barbara volunteered at Lake Erie Nature and Science Center, Bay Village Presbyterian Church, BayCrafters, Bay Village Preschool, Normandy Elementary School, St. Malachi's church, St. John West Shore Hospital, and Avon Lake United Church of Christ.

She spent many summers in Canada camping, hiking, and fishing. Music was always an integral part of her life. She played piano from the age of 6 and took many lessons in her youth and as an adult. In her teens and early adult life she participated in many piano competitions winning many blue ribbons and achieving "1" ratings. Music was inspirational, consoling, and a welcome and constant "companion" to her in later life.

Memorial service to be held at 2pm on Nov. 6, 2025 at Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd, Avon Lake. All friends welcome.
