Barbara Jo Barnes, 94, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023, in Carmel, IN surrounded by her family.
Barbara was born on October 8, 1929, in Danville, IL, to Leroy Hobbs and Hilma Dicks. She was the youngest of three siblings, Rosemary (sister) and Thomas (brother).
Barbara graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1947. She was employed by Eli Lily and Company before becoming a mother.
Barbara married Richard Barnes at Irvington Methodist Church in 1951. The couple had 2 children, Jennifer Horn and Janet Waite.
Barbara, a wife; a mother and grandmother; a friend and giver. She was an active member of her community with involvement in PEO and Girl Scouts of America. Barbara thrived in purchasing antiques, entertaining her friends, and playing golf.
Barbara adored spending time with her daughters, granddaughters and family, and longtime friend, Russell Hart. She enjoyed taking trips with loved ones. She frequented the Florida Keys and Lake of the Woods. Most of all, she embraced those around her with robust warmth and love that will live on in the hearts she touched.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Horn and Janet Waite; grandchildren, Zoe and Cassidy Horn.
Barbara is preceded in death by, Richard Barnes - husband, Leroy Hobbs - father, Hilma Dicks - mother, Rosemary Cheney- sister, Thomas Hobbs- brother.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 12PM-1PM. A memorial service will begin at 1PM. All will be held at Flanner Buchanan—Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St. Indianapolis, IN 46229.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara's honor to American Heart Association.
